Make Your Internet Connection Secure

Make Your Internet Connection Secure

How to Make Your Internet Connection Secure, as I am in China, for me this is one of the most important parts of my business. The Chinese government watches and controls all internet traffic, and this affects my business on a daily basis.

Make Your Internet Connection Secure

The question is how to Make Your Internet Connection Secure; I do this by using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) this opens a secure channel to a server in another location.

Make Your Internet Connection SecureWhat Is VPN how does it work

Virtual Private Network or VPN is a group of computers networked together over a public network, the Internet to extend a private network. This extension enables data to be sent privately between computers as you might do at home.

Connecting to a VPN, you log in with your secure credentials to VPN client installed on your computer, your computer then exchanges a number of secures encrypted keys with a server in another location. Your computer and the Remote Server then validate the keys opening a secure line for which is now encrypted and secured from prying eyes.

Do You Need a VPN

A VPN can strengthen your security, and if, like me, you like privacy and want to keep security at the forefront, a VPN is the answer. Being based in China, a country that strictly monitors and tightly controls the Internet, a VPN is of the utmost importance.

As I travel a lot, I want be able to keep all my communications secure and encrypted and away from prying eyes, trust me they are there.

For international travelers, Internet censorship is the main reason to use a VPN, a VPN enables you to access blocked websites; the VPN bypassing the countries network filters installed on their ISP’s.
A VPN will change the internet IP address, to a different country giving you an IP address from that country.
Also by connecting to a VPN server located in your home country gives you a local IP address, great for accessing online banking security back home.

Secure VPN

Having an unsecured connection, there is no doubt someone’s tapped in and monitoring what you are viewing and what you are communicating in your email, social network or messaging service. Opening your laptop, tablet or phone to check your email or Facebook at the local coffee shop, airport or anywhere free Wi-Fi is available can all potentially put your security at risk.

Do you make purchases, bank or your pay bills online, sensitive data such as Credit Card, Bank Account details and passwords are often all stored on your computer especially in your browser history cache and cookies.

What can a VPN do for me

A VPN is Like a Super Firewall; with attacks on your private computer being targeted at your IP address a VPN masks your real IP address, protecting it from attack.

Using a VPN gives access to some ultra fast locations, I use Singapore and Hong Kong the most. The governments of these countries are allowing almost unlimited internet access to any site with no or limited government control.

Singapore currently holds the world’s number 1 spot and Hong Kong follows as the top 2 in internet speeds. Check netindex.com for speeds in your region.

Which VPN service Provider to use

VPN providers come in all array of types and offer differing security levels. I use vyprvpn by Golden Frog, who I feel offers the fastest and most secure, with their Chameleon 256 bit encryption. The Chameleon system masks VPN traffic so it cannot be identified as VPN, making it difficult to be blocked or throttled, a regular problem in China. The 256 bit protocol gives Chameleon the most secure data encryption and is one of the VPN connection types offered by Vypr with four other levels of speed and security to choose.

Golden Frog  is one of the oldest and top VPN providers available. Being based out of Switzerland, means they are located in a stable, secure country, and they always locate their host servers in stable countries with locations having the fastest service.
I have used many VPN’s over the years and have found vypr to be the fastest and most secure especially when going through the Great Fire Wall of China!

China is constantly changing the rules and searches out VPN’s and blocks them vypr has been blocked, the good thing is Golden Frog has servers around the globe and quickly change their counter blocking rules.

VPN can give you access to Ultra-Fast speeds and offers almost impenetrable online security.

If security, is a concern for you, I recommend trying a free VPN trial

What have you to lose?

  1. Hello there! This blog post couldn’t be written much better!
Going through this post reminds me of my previous
roommate! He continually kept preaching about this.
I will forward this post to him. Pretty sure he’ll have a great read.
At times I have thought about online privacy and but never really considered the need, after reading this and from what my old roommate has been saying I will be thinking about this more and will likely join the VPN club myself.

    Many thanks for sharing!

    • Thank’s Scott, VPN offers real security especially if you frequently use public WiFi. You would be surprised at the amount of unsavory characters who scan public WiFi and watch your usage, just looking for keywords, username’s and passwords. All to steal your identity and/or money, for a small cost you can have real security by using a VPN.

    • Hi Nemira, thanks for your comment and all the best with your travels and making yourself secure online.
